Muzaffarabad, ( Parliament Times): In a recent meeting, the Supreme Court Bar expressed deep concern over the imposition of heavy taxes on property transactions in Azad Kashmir. The meeting was presided over by Raja Sajjad Ahmed Khan Advocate, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The taxes imposed in Azad Kashmir are several times higher compared to Punjab and the federal capital. Are the people of Azad Kashmir wealthier than those in Islamabad, or are the residents of Islamabad less affluent, justifying lower tax rates there? Or is property buying and selling in Azad Kashmir higher than in Islamabad or Rawalpindi? Due to these excessive and unreasonable taxes, property transactions have come to a halt, and people are opting for alternative methods instead of proper registrations, causing losses to the national treasury. The Bar Association stated that all government officials in Azad Kashmir receive benefits equal to those in Punjab and the federation, yet when it comes to the rights of the public, they are not given the same rights as the people of Punjab and the federation, as seen in the taxation on property transactions. The Bar demanded that the government of Azad Kashmir take serious steps to address this issue promptly so that the injustices against the public can be ended.
