Lahore, (PR) : Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the campaign to make Punjab smog-free has been intensified. In Layyah, environmental authorities dismantled brick kilns that were contributing to pollution and toxic emissions. In Sargodha, raids were conducted on factories burning tires to produce toxic smoke, resulting in the sealing of four factories. Additionally, 10 illegal brick kilns were demolished in Layyah for violating environmental regulations.
The operations were carried out by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) alongside the district administration in Layyah and Kasur. Legal action was taken against those found in violation of the law. In Layyah, the ongoing four-day campaign will continue, targeting brick kilns that lack eco-friendly Zigzag technology. During the operation, only one kiln in Layyah was found to be using this environmentally safe technology.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb commended the officials and staff of the EPD for their efforts, emphasizing that Punjab must be made smog-free by eliminating toxic emissions. She added that protecting both the environment and human health is essential and that the Chief Minister’s vision must be achieved before the smog season begins.
