Lahore: On the directions of Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yasin, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a province-wide crackdown against adulterated milk and disposed of 1,398 litres of chemically contaminated milk.
The dairy safety teams placed screening pickets at the entry point of different cities and examined 1,811 milk carrier vehicles including bikes loaded with 1,284,775 litres of milk.
In Lahore, PFA’s dairy safety teams collected 349 milk samples for testing the food quality however, 21 milk samples failed to meet the food quality parameters during the checking with lactoscan machines.
Provincial Food Minister Bilal Yasin paid surprise visits to different screening checkpoints in Lahore to check the on-field performance of dairy safety teams and the milk quality. He also inspected the mobile milk testing labs.
He said that 122 milk suppliers were caught transporting fabricated and adulterated milk from one place to another place during the operation in Punjab. He said that the authority also imposed Rs853,000 fine on several milkmen and suppliers over violations of the PFA Act.
He instructed the dairy safety teams to conduct more rigorous checks on milk-carrying vehicles at the city entrances in Punjab. He mentioned that the capacity building of food safety teams is being enhanced.
He said that citizens can pay a visit to the nearest office of PFA in the respective district with 200ml raw milk to get it tested free of cost.
