Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : President Kashmir Journalists Forum Khawarnawaz Raja, Senior Vice President Majid Afsar, Vice President Zaheer Mughal, General Secretary Aqeel Anjum,Joint Secretary Abid Hashmi, Finance Secretary Ijaz Khan, Secretary Information Iqbal Awan, Organizer Adeel Basheer ,Deputy Organizer Talha Javed and other officials expressed their concern over the restrictions imposed on the media by amending Section 505 of the AJK Penal Code, 1860.
They demanded that this oppressive law should be withdrawn immediately.They added that journalists can neither be suppressed nor intimidated by such oppressive laws. Journalists have always resisted oppression. If the government of Azad Kashmir enacts any legislation to prevent fake news, KJF will welcome but working journalists should be included in the consultation so that the issues are balanced and not controversial.
KJF demanded that a committee consisting of senior journalists should be formed immediately, consisting of representatives of CUJ, AJK UJ, AKNS and KJF, amendments should be made in consultation with the committee. KJF also expressed concern over the publication of the news by state newspapers, particularly State View, condemning it.
