Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : A landmark youth assembly was convened in the historic Provincial Assembly under the chairmanship of Speaker Babar Saleem Swati. In a symbolic session, members of the National Youth Assembly (NYA) unanimously supported the establishment of a National Youth Commission (NYC). They urged the need to replace temporary initiatives like the Prime Minister’s Youth Program with a permanent institutional structure for youth development.
Following the 18th Amendment in 2010, which transferred youth affairs entirely to the provinces, a significant gap emerged at the federal level. Given the rise of e-commerce and the evolving digital era, members stressed that the establishment of NYC is now crucial for Pakistan’s progress. The NYC, they said, would serve as the Executive Coordination Council for all national youth programs, ensuring that ongoing initiatives are protected from political uncertainties and transitions.
The session also highlighted how the NYC would open new doors for Pakistani youth to engage internationally, creating opportunities to participate in global conferences, scholarships, awards, fellowships, and other prestigious platforms.
Other prominent figures participating in the assembly included Provincial Youth Governor Mujahid Khan, Provincial Leader Arbab Suhail Jan, Samia Mukhtiar, Rabia Khan, Hamza Ahsan, Dr. Raja Taimur, Advocate Haroon Khan, Usman Ghani, Advocate Amna Khatoon, Fawad Akbar, Hanif Khan, Pir Ejaz ul Haq, and others.
NYA President Hanan Ali Abbasi informed the house that the National Youth Assembly has become the first-ever recognized platform providing outstanding services for youth over the last decade. Thousands of youth affiliated with NYA are actively involved in learning deliberations, gaining crucial experience and exposure.
The session concluded with a strong consensus on the importance of establishing the NYC to ensure stability and continuity in youth programs, while effectively harnessing the potential of Pakistan’s younger generation.
