Mrs Kulsum Nawaz Sharif breathed her last on September 11, 2024, at London and her funerals and burial took place at Jati Umrah,their family graveyard on September 14,2024. It marks the sixth anniversary of the passing of Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif, a woman whose unwavering courage and resilience in the face of adversity have left an indelible mark on Pakistan’s history. As we pay tribute to her memory, we remember her as a symbol of resistance against dictatorial regimes and a champion of democracy. Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif’s life was a testament to her strength and determination. Born in 1950 to a family of renowned wrestlers, Ghulam Muhammad alias Gama Pehlwan,Rustam Zaman ???? ????. She was raised with values of courage and perseverance. Her marriage to Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in 1971 marked the beginning of a partnership that would weather the storms of politics and adversity. As the wife of a prominent politician, Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif could have chosen a life of comfort and luxury. Instead, she stood by her husband through thick and thin, facing imprisonment, exile, and persecution with unwavering loyalty. Her leadership during the tumultuous years of General Pervez Musharraf’s rule earned her the respect and admiration of the nation. Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif’s contributions to Pakistan’s democracy are immeasurable. She played a crucial role in keeping the Muslim League (N) united and active during her husband’s imprisonment and exile. Her speeches and rallies inspired a generation of politicians and activists, and her unwavering commitment to democracy helped pave the way for the country’s transition to civilian rule. Throughout her life, Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif faced numerous challenges, including her battle with cancer. Yet, she remained steadfast in her resolve, continuing to inspire and motivate those around her. Her children, including Maryam Nawaz Sharif, first women Chief Minister of Punjab in history of Pakistan as well as in united Punjab of India,continue to carry the torch of democracy and fight for the rights of the people. Her husband, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, remains a symbol of resistance against oppression and a champion of democracy.
