London, (PR ) : Former Prime Minister and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan, stated that the ongoing public movement in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir is not about the so-called local elections under Indian military occupation, but rather a free, impartial, and unbiased plebiscite under the supervision of the United Nations. He emphasized that instead of holding assembly elections in occupied Kashmir, India should provide a time frame for an independent referendum in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and make arrangements for it.
He expressed these views during a special conversation at a dinner hosted by Raja Shehzad Saleem the previous day. Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Pakistan Muslim League (N) France Raja Ali Asghar, Patron-in-Chief Sardar Zahoor Iqbal, and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Forum France, Member of the Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and former Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir for Europe, Chaudhry Naeem Akhtar.
Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan called on the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, to address the fact that the state assembly elections under the Indian military’s supervision are a blatant violation of the Security Council’s recognized resolutions. The only solution to the Kashmir issue is a free and impartial referendum under the supervision of the United Nations. He mentioned that the fourth generation of Kashmiris is struggling for this right. He added that India’s refusal to set a date for the plebiscite and its continued shooting of innocent civilians are grave violations of human rights and the UN Charter. He stressed that India is continuously violating international laws regarding Kashmir. Occupied Kashmir is neither a part of India, nor does any Indian institution have jurisdiction over it. Under these circumstances, any elections held under the control of the Indian military are bogus and fraudulent. Instead of elections, India should grant Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
