Thatta : A devastating incident of honor killing occurred in the Ali Bahar area of Thatta district on Friday morning. According to sources, Hanif Sommro entered his house and engaged in a heated argument with his sister, Amina. The situation escalated, and Hanif Sommro fatally shot his sister. In a fit of rage, he then went to a local hotel and killed his cousin, Asif Sommro.
Local residents revealed that the accused took this extreme step due to a suspicion of an affair between his 27-year-old sister and cousin, who frequently visited their house. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to a nearby government health facility, where doctors conducted an autopsy and found that both victims sustained bullet wounds to the abdomen, resulting in damage to internal organs and excessive bleeding.
The accused fled the locality after committing the crime. When local journalists approached the family members of the deceased, they declined to share any information.
This tragic incident highlights the pressing issues of gender-based violence, toxic masculinity, and harmful cultural practices. It also underscores the need for accountability and justice in such cases, as well as the importance of addressing the culture of silence and fear that perpetuates these harmful practices.”
