Muneer Hussain Advocate, President PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) AJK Chapter, late Justice Majeed Mallick’s son ~ Arshad Majeed Mallick Advocate and others while highlighting various aspects of the life of the departed soul being a distinguished legal expert, judge and active worker of Kashmir freedom movement following his role at the last leg of his life in track-II diplomacy for the cause of peaceful solution of Kashmir issue through grant of right to self determination to the people of Jammu Kashmir State under the spirit of international norms and commitments including the UN resolutions.
Paying rich tributes to the departed soul on this occasion, the Chief guest Justice Khalid Rasheed Chaudhry said that late Justice (Retd) Majeed Mallick was a man of exceptional high intellect and pen, seasoned jurist, sincere highly talented politician of the state of Jammu and Kashmir who was equally popular among the political and legal quarters particularly at both sides of the line of control in the Jammu and Kashmir state including Azad Jammu Kashmir and the Indian Illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir because of his life time services to secure the Kashmiris internationally recognizes right to self determination and for the early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of the people of the state and international norms and commitments on the Kashmir dispute.
Speakers recalled that late retd Justice Majeed Mallick started his distinguished legal career over six decades ago from the Lahore Chamber of late Justice (Retd) Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Khan, former CJ of Lahore High Court, who was also the son of this soil of Kashmir, after completing his studies in law graduation from Punjab University Law College Lahore.
Speakers underlined that late Jastice Mallick was the authority on Kashmir because of his full command and knowledge on the history of the erstwhile Jammu Kashmir state spreading over thousands of years. “The freedom of occupied Jammu Kashmir was the sole and prime mission of the seasoned Kashmiri leader”, they said adding as such he was the true representative of the Kashmir freedom movement.
“Late Justice Mallick was the staunch believer and supporter of civil liberties”, speakers observed adding that he also always advocated for maintaining the supremacy of law and justice and dispensation of speedy and inexpensive justice to the aspirant”.
Speakers recalled that Justice [Retd] Majeed Mallick represented and raised Kashmiris just and principled stance on Kashmir issue, in unequivocal term, apprising the world of the significance of the peaceful solution of the much-delayed global issue of Kashmir primarily for securing their internationally-acknowledged right to self determination while attending hundreds of the regional, national and international conferences on Kashmir in various parties.
The largely attended birth day ceremony was attended among others by seasoned legal experts including ex Mirpur DBA Presidents Raja Zulfiqar Ahmed Advocate, Riaz Alam Advocate, senior Kashmiri Journalists and ex Kashmir Press Club President Altaf Hamid Rao, Divisional Chief PID AJK Javed Mallick and others.
Born on September 15 in 1932 in Dadayal town of Mirpur district, Justice [Retd] Abdul Majeed Mallick served as judge of the High Court and Supreme Court of AJK and later Chief Justice of the High Court of Azad Jammu Kashmir from 1978 to 1993.
Justice Mallick had long distinguished and vibrant career in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir State being an active worker and leader of the Kashmir freedom struggle as he headed the Jammu Kashmir Liberation League after the demise of the party’s founder President and ex President of Azad Jammu Kashmir [Late] K.H Khursheed on March 11 in 1988.
World-fame leader of Kashmir freedom struggle, politician, jurist Justice [Retd] Abdul Majeed Mallick had died after brief illness in his native lake district of Mirpur about two years ago.
