Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times): Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaqat Ali Chatha participated especially in the session of United Nations Global Dialogue on Sustainable Development at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce. The event held at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce was attended by Chamber President Saqib Rafiq, Senior Vice President Hamza Saroosh, Vice President Faisal Shahzad, former President Zahid Latif Khan, and members of the Chamber and people from civil society and various schools of thought.
Addressing a session on promoting sustainable development, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division said that global dialogue helps facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences among stakeholders. He said that collective efforts are aimed at ensuring the achievement of the 2030 goals to move towards a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous world. Liaqat Ali Chatha said that the Chamber of Commerce is playing its full role for the goals of sustainable development. These include support in policy making, capacity building and networking. Pakistan is a developing country which is currently facing many challenges. Among these challenges are eradication of poverty, equal rights, elimination of diseases and equal opportunities of public education for which every person must strive according to his potential.
President Chamber Saqib Rafiq said that the development of the country is the first priority of all of us. Women play the most important role in the country’s development and the Rawalpindi Chamber is committed to providing better opportunities for women to work. He said that the Chamber has a zero-tolerance policy on harassment of women and we are trying hard to provide a safe environment to women, especially at workplaces, so that they can perform their duties equally. On this occasion, the United Nations Coordinator in Pakistan, Julien Harneis while speaking on the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, said that the number of global goals is seventeen, which aims to help bring peace and prosperity to the people of the world. It also aims to develop strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and promote economic growth.
