Washington DC: Atlantic Council honoured women for their achievements in the fields of political, military, business, humanitarian, and artistic leadership with Distinguished Leadership Awards in Washington DC. This year, the Atlantic Council featured an all-female honoree slate, inspired by the past year of remarkable accomplishments by women in the world.
The 2023 honorees of Distinguished Leadership Awards include Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General, World Trade Organization (WTO), Avril Haines, Director of National Intelligence of the United States (US), Adena T. Friedman, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Nasdaq, Gen. Laura J. Richardson, Commander, US Southern Command and the Women and Girls of Iran.
WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman to lead the trade body. US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines is also the first woman to oversee the US Intelligence Community.
Nasdaq Chair and CEO Adena T. Friedman, who leads a major US stock exchange operator, has focused her tenure on modernizing and diversifying Nasdaq. And General Laura J. Richardson, commander of US Southern Command, has used her passion for global security to promote the rule of law, human rights, and democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Distinguished Leadership Awards also honoured the brave Iranian women and girls who have stood up to fight the Iranian Republic’s discriminatory laws, drawing support and attention from across the world.
Each year, the Atlantic Council Distinguished Leadership Awards celebrates the highest-achieving individuals who have contributed to the Atlantic Council’s mission of shaping the global future together and embodying the pillars of the transatlantic relationship.
