The detention of political leaders and activists and communications blackout along with the imposition of strict security measures in the region has been one of the immediate consequences of this Abrogation of the Indian Constitution Article. Human Rights had been violated and it had been claimed by Human Rights activists that the Indian government is suppressing dissent and depriving the people of Jammu and Kashmir of basic rights. The repeal of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, as well as the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, have had a significant effect and impact on the region. The Indian government made this decision in August 2019, which sparked widespread debate and controversy, with many arguing that it has far-reaching implications for democracy, human rights, and regional stability. While Jammu and Kashmir will retain their legislature, Ladakh will not, raised concerns about the people of Ladakh’s marginalization and representation in the Indian political system. This decision to divide Jammu and Kashmir into two separate union territories has raised concerns about the region’s future democracy and representation. Critics argue that the move sets a dangerous precedent and may lead to the erosion of the autonomy of other Indian states. This has raised concerns that India’s federal structure, which is a pillar of its democracy, may be jeopardized. Thus, the repeal of Article 370 has far-reaching consequences for India’s federal structure. Tensions between the two superpowers had already been at a high level, and this incident heightened them further, both neighbours have long been at odds over the region. Pakistan automatically and vehemently condemned India’s decision being it a violation of UN Security Council resolutions on the subject and international law as well. The firm position taken by the military regarding India may have noteworthy consequences for the forthcoming SCO Foreign Ministers assembly scheduled to occur in Goa, India the following month. There Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is expected to be present also. Due to the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian constitution in August 2019, which resulted in the removal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has terminated both trade and diplomatic relations with India and has called for a reversal of the decision, which it perceives as a breach of the United Nations resolutions. Pakistan maintains that India’s decision is not acceptable as the issue about Kashmir is a matter of bilateral concern between the two nations. The current state of affairs is characterized by a palpable level of tension, as both parties continue to uphold their unwavering positions on the matter at hand. Furthermore, the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status has had an economic impact on the region. The security measures and restrictions imposed by the Indian government have had a significant impact on the region’s tourism industry, which is a major source of income. Many people in the region have lost their jobs and income as a result of this. Finally, the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, as well as the repeal of Article 370, have had a significant impact and effect on the region and beyond. It has raised concerns about human rights, democracy, and regional stability, as well as cast doubt on India’s federal structure. While it is unclear how the situation will play out, it is clear that the move has far-reaching implications that will necessitate careful thought and analysis.
