    EC put on notice in petition filed against acceptance of PTI MNAs resignation

    KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notice to Election Commission (EC) on the petition filed by PTI Members of National Assembly (MNAs) from Karachi against acceptance of their resignation.
    These PTI MNAs have requested the court hearing of their petition at the earliest.

    These MNAs had resigned from their seats.
    A two members bench of SHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Ahmad Ali Sheikh took up for hearing plea filed by PTI MNAs against the acceptance of their resignations Thursday.
    The CJ SHC inquired you have what emergency. Why have you come.

    The counsel for PTI took the plea the by election is going to be held on March 16 therefore, their petition be heard immediately. You have fixed the date of March 21 and till that date the election will have taken place. If ballot papers are printed then million of rupees of public will be wasted.

    The CJ SHC remarked we will give decision after hearing the petition. Why are you making the `atmosphere emotional. We will hear the petition as per law and give decision.

    The court fixed March 07 for hearing the case.

    The petitioners took the plea in the petition the MNAs have been denotified wrongly and the legal process was not adopted. Speaker National Assembly (NA) did not fulfill the process for acceptance of resignation as per law. No verification was made about their resignation from the MNAs who had resigned. Election Commission denotified these MNAs in the light of this decision.

    The petitioners prayed the court to declare Election commission notification regarding acceptance of the resignations illegal and null and void.

    Those who have filed petitions include MNAs Ali Zaidi, Aftab Jahangir, Fahim Khan, Atta Ullah advocate, Saif ur Rehman Masood, Aftab Siddiqui, Aslam Khan, Najib Haroon and Alimgir Khan.
