FAISALABAD: There are vast possibilities for the development of mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Japan while there is a dire need to create more facilities for the business people of both the countries to come forward for mutual interests. This was stated by the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Wadamanshu Ira, during a meeting with the President of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry( FCCI) Dr. Khurram Tariq, Senior Vice President & Editor Sajjad Arshad. The Japanese Ambassador expressed that their country is striving for the social and economic development of Pakistan, while work on several water supply and drainage projects in Faisalabad are also going on with the support of JICA project and instead of loans, grants-in-aid are being given for these projects. He said that this series of mutual cooperation will remain continuing in the future too. He further said that until some time ago, Japanese electronic products were being directly imported into Pakistan, but due to policy difficulties, these products are now being imported through other countries. He said that Pakistan’s business community should examine these factors so that instead of smuggling, these items can be directly imported under legal procedures. The Japanese ambassador also mentioned a food company and said that this Japanese company was exporting its products to many Muslim countries around the world, but it has been banned in Pakistan for no reason, even though this company has also invested in Pakistan. He further said that the Faisalabad Chamber of commerce and industry and the elite business community should look into such matters and create favorable conditions that would practically encourage foreign investors and increase the volume of bilateral trade. He said that Japan is also ready to help for the promotion of civilization and culture in Pakistan. Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Dr. Khurram Tariq appreciated the centuries-old culture and civilization of Japan and said that the development of this country is an example for other developing countries of the world. He also proposed exchange of cultural delegations between the two countries and said that we need to take advantage of Japan’s development in education, research, industry and IT sector. The President of the Chamber assured the Japanese Ambassador that he would provide him with a complete list of trade organizations in Faisalabad so that he could strengthen the relationship with the business community of Faisalabad. Dr. Khurram Tariq also appreciated Japan’s help for water supply in Faisalabad. He also invited the Japanese ambassador to visit the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
