    Mirpur Varsity hosts US Embassy-sponsored 1st Pak TESOL Regional Training Workshop for English Language Teachers

    MIRPUR (AJK),  (Parliament Times) : “English language carries significance of the highest order in acquiring modern scientific and technological knowledge as well as in communicating Pakistan’s perspective effectively to the international community”, said Brigadier (Retd) Prof. Dr. Younus Javed, Vice Chancellor of state-run Mirpur University of Science and Technology:

    He was addressing concluding session of two-day 1st Pak TESOL Two-Day Regional Training Workshop for English Language Teachers held under the auspices of the Professional Regional English Language Office Pakistan’s Public Diplomacy Section of the United States of America Embassy, Islamabad that culminated here Saturday at the State run Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJK.

    The MUST VC Brig (Retd) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus Javed SI(M), was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the grand event jointly coordinated by by Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mirpur, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Islamabad & Regional English Language Office (RELO), Islamabad at the City Campus of the Mirpur University.

    Brigadier (Retd) Dr. Younus Javed, Vice Chancellor MUST, addressing the ceremony continued that such platforms provide an opportunity to exchange views on modern trends, issues, practical difficulties and best practices in the context of Pakistan ELT community. He paid gratitude to all invited guest speakers & collaborating partners for their huge cooperation and support in organising the high standard activity.

    He also lauded the efforts Prof. Dr. Tahseen Ghous, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, faculty & Administrative staff of English Department of MUST.

    The Vice Chancellor commended Dr. Sehrish Shafi, Coordinator Department of English, who architected the entire event & for taking initiative to promote quality of education, providing a platform to the affiliated colleges and for making all possible efforts and arrangements to conduct 1st PakTESOL workshop at Mirpur University and setting an example for the other departments to the University to follow.

    Dr. Sehrish Shafi, Coordinator Department of English of Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mirpur and Dr. Muhammad Kamal Khan, Associate Professor, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad / Project Director, PakTESOL were team leaders of 1st PakTESOL, Two-Day Regional Training Workshop at Mirpur University in which forty English Teachers of Higher Education Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir lead by Dr. Khawaja Abdul Rehman, Director Public Institutions of Colleges & faculty members of English Department of Mirpur University were given training by honorable Guest Speakers.

    Dr. Sehrish Shafi, event organizer while speaking at both opening and closing sessions, highlighted purpose of the workshop, she said Regional Workshop will give Pakistani English Language Teaching (ELT) practitioners a chance to advance their careers and build a stronger ELT community.

    The Vice Chancellor MUST gave away souvenirs, shields and certificates to the guest speakers, participants and organizers of the event.

    Head of Media wing of the Mirpur University of Science and Technology Hafeez Bin Mustafa told our Special AJK Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao here Sunday that the grand capacity building training workshop was attended and addressed among others by seasoned educationists of the concerned faculties including Prof. Dr. Syed Nasir Abbas, Dean Faculty of Languages and Literature Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS), Uthal, Balochistan, Dr. Muhammad kamal Khan, Associate Professor, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad / Project Director PakTESOL, Dr. Sehrish Shafi, Assistant Professor, Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mirpur, Dr. Akifa Imtiaz, Associate Professor, Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, Dr. Nouman Hamid, Assistant Professor, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJ&K), Muzaffarabad and Dr. Abida Ayesha, Assistant Professor, Rawalpindi Women University (RWU), Rawalpindi held training sessions on the themes including “ Learning a foreign language in multilingual context”, “Alternative assessment of blended – learning in over-sized classes”, “How to create a culturally responsive classroom, Constructing Test Items in Language Assessment”, “21st Century Skills” and “Innovation Teaching Techniques in ELT Classroom”.
