Lahore: The newly appointed Ambassador of Spain to Pakistan Jose Antonio de Ory called on Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman today at Governor House Lahore today. Issues of mutual interest, bilateral trade and cultural relations were discussed during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that there are deep ties between Pakistan and Spain which are getting stronger and stronger with the passage of time. He appreciated Spain’s role in the GSP Plus scheme for Pakistan and expressed the hope that Spain would continue to support Pakistan in the matter of GSP Plus status in the European Union. Governor Punjab also appreciated Spain’s role in the European Union on the issue of GI tagging of basmati rice. He said that Spain is Pakistan’s third largest trading partner in the European Union and after the acquisition of GSP Plus, there has been further increase in trade activities between the two countries.
Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that he appreciates the cooperation of Spain to help the flood victims. He said that Pakistan’s role in climate change is less while the damage has been more. He said that Pakistan’s share in greenhouse gas emissions is very low. Governor Punjab said that the recent floods in Pakistan are due to climate change and industrial pollution. The Spanish Ambassador agreed with the Governor of Punjab and said that the countries responsible for climate change should specially help Pakistan on this occasion. He said that cultural relations with Pakistan will be enhanced.
