Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs was held today at Parliament House to examine the purchase details of two used tankers/vessels recently purchased by the Pakistan National
Shipping Corporation (PNSC) and to discuss the Pakistan Merchant Marine Shipping Policy 2001.

Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson Committee and other members of the Committee expressed their
resentment on the absence of the Minister and asked the Secretary Maritime Affairs to communicate
the concerns of the Committee to the Minister for Maritime Affairs.

The Committee was informed that the Prime Minister had replaced four new members of the Board of
Directors of PNSC on 5th August, 2022, but the Board meetings are being held with the old members and new members of the Board are not being invited to the Board meetings. The Committee was further informed that Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan has been requested to take note of this
serious irregularity. The Committee showed its concern on the meetings of the PNSC Board of Directors with old members. The Committee also questioned the validity of the decisions of the Board meetings.
The Committee did not take briefing on the purchase of used tankers/vessels.

The Committee deferred the discussion on the Merchant Marine Shipping Policy 2001 and decided to
invite the private sector stake holders to the next meeting of the Committee.

Chaired by Senator Rubina Khalid, the meeting was attended by Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Senator Naseema Ehsan, Senator Kauda Babar, Senator Saifullah Abro, Senator Danesh Kumar, Senator Moula Bux Chandio, Senator Dost Muhammad Khan, Senator Mohammad Abdul Qadir and senior officers from the
Ministry of Maritime Affairs; PNSC along with all concerned.
