Mirpur (PID), (Parliament Times) : Terming public healt,h as one of the top priorities of the government, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has said that 10% of the budget was being spent on public health.
The president said this while addressing a seminar organized by Physicians Across Continents (UK) and Kashmir Health Foundation UK here today. The seminar was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University and Regional Consultant Surgeon Dr. Muhammad Iqbal. President Kashmir Health Foundation UK and Consultant Gynaecologist Dr. Salma Noor, Consultant General Surgery Dr. Jameel Gorsi, Consultant Urologist UK Prof. Mateen Sharif, DHQ Organizer Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed Raja, MS Dr. Amir Aziz, Principal MBBS Medical College Brigadier (retd) Prof. Dr. Shaukat Mehmood, Dr. Saima Parveen, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Sadiq and Dr. Bashir Kanth also spoke on the occasion
.President AJK said that the government was planning to set up a medical university in the state whereas 500 additional beds would be sanctioned for the Mirpur Divisional Teaching Hospital. He said that the DHQ would get high-tech equipment shortly to provide modern health care facilities to people.
Terming the launching of “Minimally Access Surgery Program (MASP)” a landmark development, Barrister Chaudhary said that the program would have positive effects in the public health sector. “The people of Azad Kashmir will be able to benefit from British doctors for which the MoU has been signed in today’s seminar”, Barrister Chaudhary said, adding that MASP’s scope would also be extended to other cities of Azad Kashmir for the larger interests of common masses.
The president praised Kashmir Health Foundation (UK) and Physicians Across Continents (UK) and others for launching this project.In order to improve the health services, he said that the government of Azad Kashmir would provide all possible support and cooperation in this regard.He also paid tribute to British doctors for their valuable contribution.
