Afghanistan is in dire straits, treading arduous path of both economic and governance crunch post 15th August 2021 ever since Taliban regime took over power in war-ravaged country, Afghanistan. What is more agonizing news to be learned is that a couple of months ago, a picture of a TV anchor— quickly became the hot topic on mainstream media—who is selling food on the streets in order to satiate the empty bellies of his children after losing his job. This depicts gloomy and quagmire situation in Afghanistan in which people have to take stringent and drastic measures in order to survive. As ill-luck would have it, the people of war-torn country are reeling under stark poverty which compels them to sell their organs, i.e Kidneys in order to earn their bread and butter for their children.Owing to being ruled by many global powers there, Afghanistan has been going through persistent pandemonium and chaos since three decades, resultantly it’s the very general masses who most borne the burnt. The financial problems have been deteriorated further by the massive brain drain that Afghanistan has suffered tremendously since the disposition of the Ghani regiment. As per some facts and figures, approximately 120,000 people had been airlifted out of the country by Western bloc. The deportees, many of the most skilled and qualified professionals, in all walk of life; that included law, medicine, finance, engineering and few more in list. The brutal invasion of USSR( also known as Soviet Union) over Afghanistan in 1979 resulted in one of the biggest humanitarian crises of modern history, with over 5 million evacuees fleeing to its immediate countries, Pakistan and Iran. The massive diaspora of almost a quarter of the Afghan population, of which three quarters were women and children, was a consequence of myriad factors. These subsumed apprehension and menace of the Soviet occupying army and the pro-Soviet regime and widespread annihilation of homes and livelihoods.Today Afghanistan lies catastrophic as one of the poorest nations of the world. Prior to de facto regime of Taliban, Global community was proffering about $8 billion to Afghanistan per annum in humanitarian aid, $ 4.5 billion in budget and development aid, around $4 billion in defence assistance into the bargain. With the aftermath of ignominious defeat of US-Led NATO, western powers tended to marginalize and delegitimize newly emerged administration in Kabul. After inglorious retreat from Afghanistan, International community immediately froze 9.3billion in assets belonging to Afghan Central Bank which descended the country into the state of topsy-turvydom and disruption in functional governance. Given the hard and draconian stance of Taliban, International community as well as no country has , hitherto, formally recognized existing setup in Afghanistan, as global community equated the recognition and indispensable humanitarian aid with restoring rudimentary rights of human, specially women. Instead of respecting human rights, women in particular, they have banned women and girls from secondary and higher education, sacked many a women from jobs;banks, schools, business; government etc. In addition, they have adopted their own religiously orthodox rules which are seeply eating fabric of women’s moral rights. Broader world community requires salubrious, amiable and respectable ambiance for people in general and women in particular. To conclude, Taliban must adopt/show some resilient stance towards humans rights, of women particularly, allow them to go to schools, universities or to run business, if flexible posture not be in action, there could be devastating consequences down the road for Afghanistan and its gloomy people. Moreover, one must not heap its entire blame for the current situation having in Afghanistan on Taliban only, foreign powers who ruled there since time immemorial are equally accountable to what Afghanistan seems to teeter on the brink of cataclysm. Western world must unfreeze its frozen aid in assets, and all the countries in the world should contribute to war-shattered country in humanitarian aid as to evade further humanitarian calamity.
