Time has significant importance in our lives. It’s eternal, has no beginning and no end, keeps going. We measure it by seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. Past, present and future describe time, yesterday is past, today is present, and tomorrow is the future. Time is the most valuable thing in the universe, everything depends on time, nothing happens before it’s fixed time. As, we can take the example of day and night, come at a fixed time. In the Holy Quran, Allah has said: ” “He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night.” (Surah Az-Zumar) We work during the day and sleep at night. Allah has said in the Holy Quran: “It is Allah alone who has made the night that you rest in it and has made the day light-giving.” (Surah: Yunus) But, nowadays, it isn’t like that, people wake up all the night and sleep at day, at the time of dawn prayer, many of them even don’t prayer it. Losing time is one of the worst things, isn’t reversible. We should utilize it in a better way. It gives opportunities and also take away. For example, a person who works hard, gets a good job, we say he was working hard for a long time to achieve it, has achieved at the right time. It takes opportunities away from us such as, a person who worked hard and got a good job, enjoying all facilities which fulfills his basic needs, but wants more, takes advantage of his job and accumulates a lot of wealth such as property, etc. After sometime, a scandal break out on him, everything is confiscated. As, in Pakistan, government employees who accumulate a lot of wealth exploiting their jobs, when scandals arise on them, punished and their property is confiscated, also suspended from jobs. What did they get by doing all this? They just wasted their time in making a fortune, which is no use to them. Time gave an opportunity but they misused it, has taken opportunities away from them which were given. Wasted time never come back, we don’t value before, but later, in the form of repentance. For example, I’ve to prepare ten questions for my paper. I prepare eight but leave two questions on choice. When the paper comes, I surprise by seeing that the questions which I left on choice have come, it’s compulsory to attempt these questions. Then I repent that I might read it, now I would be able to attempt, where I had prepared eight questions, I would have done these two. But, now, the time has gone and repentance is of no use. We have to use it sensibly, if we commit a mistake, can’t be repaired by going back to that time. We should utilize from the time we have. We shouldn’t waste our time in useless things. People waste it for a variety of reasons such as on the internet, playing games, doing unproductive work, sleeping extra, lying around for no reason for hours, etc. The youth of today waste the time indulging in useless activities, give more time to social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and other apps, I’m not saying we shouldn’t use but to an extent, use this technology for learning instead of useless chatting. The best use of free time is learning and reading, we should read about history or other important books which increase our knowledge. A proverb, “Killing time is suicide not murder,” means a person who wastes time, harms himself, not others by wasting time. Time is a free flowing force, doesn’t stop or slow down, keeps going if someone likes or not. Most of the people value their money more than time, enjoy time by eating, playing, or other useless activities, never think what they’re doing, in what ways they’re spending their time. Such as, I’ve observed in the university, some students come and spend time useless, don’t study. We think about them they just come here to spend time or money, don’t realize their parents have sent them to study and make career, how they’re wasting their own time and parents money. If we’ve lost time, we’ve lost everything. Never spend your precious time without any purpose. We should use it accordingly in positive way to fulfill some purpose. Time is wasted, when we’ve no proper time management. We all have tasks to do, some to be done right now, some to be done soon, some to be done later. For example, some people’re good in managing budgets, know how much they earn and what their monthly expenses. We can do the same accounting with our time, need to set our goals. Time is a precious asset, should be used judiciously. Those who waste time always lag behind others, never succeed in life. A famous saying, “Time and tide wait for no one,” means if one loses a minute, it goes forever. Those who waste time, it wastes them.
