Teacher, the most reputed profession in the world , has high status in society around the globe. Islam also teaches us the lesson to respect teachers because they are the people who take you from the darkness to the light. Even in early times, Our holy prophet Muhammad SAW not only respected the profession teaching but also regarded it the sacred one. Teacher has been honored not only in western culture but also in the eastern part of the world as well. As far as Pakistan is concerned, there is a sorry state of affairs when it comes to respect such a high profession. People particularly students in Pakistan turn a deaf ear and never understand the true status of teachers in society. In this 21st century, teachers have been degraded at many places not only by students but also local public as well. Teacher is one who shows the way to the coming generation of the world. Pakistan is a country where teachers are disrespected mostly and it is a very grim scenario in the country where the main builder of society are deprived of their status. History is filled with many unfortunate examples where teachers have been devalued and considered as inferior in society. One of the example from Punjab where a lecturer was blamed to have an intimate relations with his colleague which than proved wrong but affected the personal life of that lecturer and resultantly he ended his life by commiting suicide. There must be a frequent counseling sessions for students to make them aware about the status of teachers in society. If this trend continues more, it will have serious consequences not only on teachers but also on education system of the country.
