Generally, History have proved, if you are not capable of defence, you will be in the hands of others and will be used as useful idiot. Although defence have destructive impacts over environment but without it, state’s survival would be at risk. So, something beyond (in/out) of its borders is harmful, there should be an equilibrium. Similarly, Defence have played crucial role, in maintaining sovereignty, peace and prosperity, and reconciliation for nations. It has vital importance, and is considered as piller of state/nation next to economy. India is a closed ally of US, especially in defence cooperation. Apparently, several defence related agreements have been signed. Let’s, observe some important agreements, that were inked around the years of 2010-2020. In the sphere of terrorism, the first Indo-US agreement was signed in 2009, the Counter Terrorism Cooperation Initiative. It was aimed to abate terrorists activities including, their funding, training and supporting elements. Similarly, in 2012, Defence Technology and Trade Initiative agreement was signed. uring the year of 2015, both countries agreed to sign, Framework for the India-US Defence Relationship and Joint Strategic Vision for the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean Region. Furthermore, in 2016, Washington and New Delhi inked the agreements of Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement and Framework for the US-India Cyber Relationship. Moreover, in the year of 2018, Communication and Compatibility and Security Agreement, while Industrious Security Annex in 2019 and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) was signed in 2020. However, India have also involved herself in anti-China alliances, like QUAD, which is aimed to contain Chinese influence, not only in the region but in global politics, trade and defence. Just within a period of 10 years, more than nine major defence cooperation agreements were signed. Besides it, few defence oriented, equipments were also taken into account, that were sold by US to India. Considering all at once, C-130J transport aircraft in 2008, C-17 transport aircraft and Pi-Bi maritime petrol aircraft in 2009, Chinook Ch-47 heavy lift transport helicopters and AH-64E Apache attack helicopters in 2015, while Harpoon anti-ship missiles in 2016, and MH-60 Seahawk maritime helicopters in 2020, all were purchased by India in mentioned year. Furthermore, both states have established joint, armed, naval, air forces, tri-services and special forces exercises. These exercises, held annually, once in 5 years and intermittent. Yudh Abhyas, Red Flag and Malabar are some examples of joint military exercises. At last, I consider these agreements as spark in the region. Because it disturbs not only the balance of power but promotes arms race and hegemonic behavior. Patently, India is making all efforts for his security but clouds are on the horizon. In lieu of showing his teeth to regional nations; especially Pakistan and China, and efforts for accessing more power, India should turn over a new leaf. And beyond all questions, if US is her faithful friend, it should help India in educational and health sectors, poverty alleviation, population control, and would help in resolving regional disputes like Kashmir and border issues with China.
