ISLAMABAD : Government has decided to drop another electricity bombshell on the citizens amid the reports that power tariff is likely to be scaled up by Rs 3.12 per unit.
Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed application with National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking increase in power tariff.
An additional burden of over Rs 30 billion will be put on the consumers in case the power tariff is scaled up.
CPPA while filing application for enhancement in power tariff under the head of Fuel Adjustment Surcharge (FAS) in the month of December said 8.52 billion unit electricity was generated in the month of December 2021. Its production cost remained Rs 73.84 billion.
CPPA has said the costliest electricity was generated at the cpst pf Rs 22.24 from furnace oil. The electricity was generated at the cost of Rs 17.80 per unit from LNG, Rs 14.08 per unit from diesel and Rs 13.31 per unit from coal. Electricity was imported from Iran at the rate of Rs 13.26 per unit. Therefore, power tariff under FAS head be increased Rs 3.12 per unit.
