KARACHI,(Parliament Times): The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has strongly condemned the highly immoral and rude remarks of PML-N central leader Maryam Nawaz and former Information Minister Pervez Rashid against journalists and termed the alleged audio leak that went viral on electronic and social media as a conspiracy against journalists. CPNE leaders say senior journalists and other media persons, including anchors, have the right to analyze and express their views. They made it clear that no pressure would be put on the media and journalists.

They lamented that in the alleged audio leak, the immoral talk of politicians against journalists has exposed the hidden dictatorial thinking of controlling the media.

The intolerant and prejudiced attitude of senior PML-N leaders, leaders and politicians towards senior journalists and media shows the extent to which freedom of press and freedom of expression can be suppressed. PML-N leader Pervez Rashid should apologize to the media across the country including these senior journalists and anchors. CPNE leaders also demanded that the government conduct a forensic investigation into the alleged viral audio leak on electronic and social media. And, the conspiratorial characters who illegally recorded audio and went viral on social media should be held accountable.
