MUZAFFARABAD, (Parliament Times) : Azad Jammu and Kashmir Press Foundation Chairman Chief Justice High Court Justice Raja Sadaqat has directed Chief Election Commissioner Press Foundation and Information Secretary Midhat Shehzad to decide the case after hearing in detail the appeal of Shehzad Khan, a candidate who had filed a disqualification petition against Zahid Akbar Abbasi, a candidate contesting the election of the governing body of Press Foundation in Rawalpindi Islamabad. Azad Jammu and Kashmir Press Foundation Chairman Chief Justice High Court Raja Sadaqat has issued this directive on an appeal filed by Shehzad Khan. Shehzad Khan in his appeal has taken the position that it is included in the election rules of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Press Foundation and the candidate has to submit an affidavit while submitting documents that he is not a government employee and does not belong to any journalist organization or press club. Zahid Akbar Abbasi is an employee of the federal government and is also the president of the Kashmir Journalists Forum, an organization of Kashmiri journalists based in Rawalpindi, Islamabad. And, he has not resigned from his presidency, nor has he appointed a senior vice president. Therefore, under the Press Foundation Election Rules, Zahid Akbar Abbasi cannot contest the election of a member of the governing body, therefore he should be declared ineligible for election. Shehzad Khan had filed objections against the nomination papers of Zahid Akbar Abbasi before Chief Election Commissioner Press Foundation Midhat Shehzad with evidence but he did not examine the rules under these objections and without hearing the parties, both the candidates from Rawalpindi Islamabad. Shehzad Khan and Zahid Akbar Abbasi’s papers were declared valid and the polling schedule was issued on December 23. Shehzad Khan had filed an appeal with the Chairman Press Foundation against this illegal move of the Election Commission, on which the Chairman Press Foundation Chief Justice High Court Justice Raja Sadaqat has directed the Chairperson Election Commission to hear and decide on the appeal.
