It has been a dilemma for our country in general & province of Sindh in particular that the authorities are blinking to the fact of upgrading syllabus taught in the school for many centuries without any change at all. The English book of class First year, published by Sindh Text Book Board is so outdated that it was taught to our forefathers. The lessons like “Miracle of Radio” and “Air Travel” are laughable that need prompt change. Our students are taught in the lesson “Miracle of Radio” that soon colour TVs will make their way to our homes. Man has planned to explore the galaxies and our students are still talking about Hot Air Balloon & Gliders! There are number of lessons in the text book that badly need to be modified and updated. But our Text Board is in deep slumber of carelessness which results in ruining the future of Pakistan. Teaching & learning methodologies are changed in the world and we still are designing the spoon feeding syllabus that completely lacks activity based and discussion based content. If we really pledge & aspire to stand shoulder by shoulder with other developed nations then we’ve to develop the syllabus as per the modern demands of teaching & learning. If we are reluctant in this case then we should burn the outdated books in no time.
