President, PM, others  express grief over loss of human lives in earthquake

QUETTA: Earth quake has caused devastation in different areas of Balochistan leaving at least 20 people  killed and more than 300 injured.  An earthquake of five point nine magnitude intensity rocked  the northern Balochistan early this morning. According to the seismological centre, the epicentre was located near Harnai at a depth of 15km. The quake affected Quetta, Sibi, Harnai, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Ziarat and Zhob in Balochistan. The magnitude of the quake was measured at 5.9 on the Richter scale. Hernai was the most affected area in quake in terms of loss to lives and property. Several houses were destroyed and  government buildings were damaged. Rescue teams from Quetta have been rushed to the most affected districts and injured are being shifted to hospitals.According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), most of the deceased are children.A medical emergency has been declared at the Civil Hospital Quetta and Hernai where doctors and other paramedical staff have been recalled on an emergency basis.  According to a statement issued by the ISPR, necessary food and shelter items have been moved for the earthquake affected population.Army doctors and paramedics along with necessary medicines are assisting the civil administration for necessary medical care, the ISPR statement read.The ISPR said that nine critically injured people were evacuated by air to Quetta through Pakistan Army aviation helicopters.The Balochistan (North) IGFC has also reached Harnai to assess the damage, while an urban search and rescue team is being flown from Rawalpindi to speed up and assist in rescue activities. According to deputy commissioner of Harnai, Sohail Anwar Hashmi, several people have been rushed to the hospital in critical condition.Meanwhile President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and others have   expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of human lives in Harnai, Balochistan earthquake.
PM Imran Khan has said in his website twitter “ I have issued directives for providing immediate relief  to the earth quake affectees of Harnai besides summoning the details of loss caused by the earth quake.
“ I condole with the family members of victims of the earth quake, he added.
The preliminary report on current situation in quake hit areas and loss caused by the quake has been received in PM house. Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed all federal departments to fully assist Balochistan government in provision of relief to the earthquake victims.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said the federal government will extend all possible assistance to Balochistan government in this difficult hour.The Prime Minster also called for an immediate assessment of the damage for timely relief and compensation.In a tweet President Arif Alvi  condoled with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls. Praying for the early recovery of those injured, President Arif Alvi was confident that the national and provincial disaster management authorities would provide quick relief to the affected people.Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said the civil armed forces are cooperating with the local administration in extending help to the quake victims of Balochistan.In a statement, he said Frontier Corps Balochistan (North) is fully participating in the rescue efforts.  He said all resources are being utilized to carry out rescue and relief work in Harnai and adjoining areas.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has said government will extend full cooperation  to the quake affected people of Balochistan.
Expressing deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the tremor he said the entire nation is aggrieved over the loss of lives in the quake.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif has expressed grief over the deaths of people in Balochistan earthquake.
In a post on social-networking website Twitter, the PML-N leader stated, “Sad over the loss of precious lives due to earthquake in Balochistan last night. My profound condolences and prayers go out to the affected families.”
“The authorities must act on war footing to rehabilitate those affected by this disaster,” he demanded.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has also expressed deep sorrow over loss of precious human lives in earthquake.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has expressed heartfelt condolences over the loss of precious lives in the earthquake in Balochistan. He demanded the federal and Balochistan governments provide the best medical facilities to those injured in the earthquake. He also urged them to announce compensation for the earthquake victims.
State minister Farrukh Habib has said they stand with the people of Balochistan in this trying time. Chief ministers of all the provinces have expressed grief over the loss of human lives in Balochistan earthquake.
