Ijaz Alam briefs Iranian delegation on human rights conditions in province


LAHORE,(Parliament Times): An Iranian delegation led by Iranian General Council Mohammad Raza Naziri called on provincial minister HR&MA Ijaz Alam Augustine here in the camp office of Human Rights on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the human rights situation in the province, international cooperation for peace, protection of religious freedom and promotion of inter-faith dialogue etc. Provincial Minister Ejaz Alam Augustine briefed the delegation about the steps taken by the Punjab government to promote interfaith harmony and protection of human rights. The provincial minister informed the delegation that while the Punjab Chief Minister made Interfaith Harmony part of the ministry, the Punjab government had taken a number of steps to promote inter-faith harmony. The top priorities of the Punjab government included promoting peace, religious harmony and tolerance while the PTI government is taking all possible steps for a peaceful environment across the country. He said that the policy of Human Rights made by the department has clearly defined the solution of all issues faced by people of Punjab while the interfaith policy being promoted in various awareness seminars and dialogue sessions. He further said the draft for the new policy is being finalized with the consultation of all stakeholders. The provincial minister informed the PTI government also honored that for the first time in history a human rights policy was implemented in Punjab, which ensured the protection of the rights of the weaker segments of the society while the Treaty Implementation Cell is gaining international acceptance from the platform of Department of HR&MA, steps being taken to set up TT cell in other provinces on the demand of other provinces. Iranian Consul General Mohammad Raza Naziri appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Human Rights in protecting human rights and implementing the interfaith policy in Punjab and assured full cooperation for the protection of human rights in the future. At the end of the meeting, the Provincial Minister presented the book of Human Rights Policy 2018 by the department to the delegation while the Iranian Consul General also presented a souvenir to the Provincial Minister.
