Awareness session in Mastung against harassment and its impacts on women


MASTUNG,(Parliament Times): An awareness session was organized on “Balochistan Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2016” here in Mastung on Monday. pThe session is the part of series of the awareness programmes launched by the provincial Ombudswoman Ms. Sabira Islam Advocate in collaboration with the Governance and Policy Project Balochistan. It may be mentioned here that under the project, the similar awareness sessions would be conducted in 16 districts of the Balochistan province with the aim to create awareness about the protection against harassment of women at the Workplace Act. During her visit to Mastung, the Ombudwoman Sabira Islam had meeting with the Assistant Commissioner Mastung in his office besides having an interaction with the Director of sub-campus of Balochistan University, Dr. Razzaq Shahwani.

Ms. Sabira Islam also distributed pamphlets and brochures containing the information and details about the code of conduct, anti-harassment Act, penalties and sentence that can be awarded to those who commit the offence of harassment. The Ombudsman also spoke at length about the basic aim and objectives and informed the process of complaints they received about the harassment at the workplaces in addition to how the complaints are dealt with.

She said that harassment is an intolerable offence and it must be discouraged by all in the society. The Assistant Commissioner Mastung and Director sub-campus of the University also shared their views on the occasion and assured every possible cooperation with the Ombudswoman to ensure implementation on the relevant law at their respective workplaces. The process of the awareness sessions would continue in different other districts of the province.
