Thar: July 19,2021 was indeed a sad day. Just a Day before Eid ul Adha 2021, Hassanseven years old fell into a water tank in village Wahar Bheel of Tharparkar and died. There was no one in the house at that time. His parents had gone to chachro to inject his younger sister. The child remained in the water tank for more than an hour. The elder brother of the deceased child kept searching for him in the entire village. After a long search,Hassanwas found in the water tank. He was still breathing when he was taken out. Unfortunately for this child, there was no vehicle in the village to rescue him and take him to the hospital. After some time, the vehicle of a local non-governmental Organization AWARE came by chance and tried to rescuehim to take him to the hospital. It was afternoon when he was rescued but unfortunately,on the way he passed away.Every year, like Hassan, countless children loss their lives by falling into ground water tanks which is no less than a resurrection for their parents. The dreams of these mothers are shattered when their offspring, whom they raised with their own hands, suddenly slip away from them.Knowingly or unknowingly, there are many incidents in Thar that are regretted for a lifetime. We have to save the children of Thar from such incidentsi.e.,falling into the underground water tanks, water wells. Many such incidents occur every year in Tharparkar due to negligence.Every house in Thar has an underground tank, which at times cause so much grief to the family.Due to shortage of water in Thar the underground tank is the need of hour of Thari people in which they store water. When it rains, they collect and harvest rain water. And in normal days when it does not rain, they fetch water on their heads and gather in this water tank for household use, anytime they need it in day or at night. The water shortage in Tharparkar is severe and water tanksare locked, sometimes the people of the house forget to lock. Most of the water tanks has no cover to protect water or any other hazard. It will be good if the government makes a policy, it is mandatory to take permission before digging borehole or for constructing water tanks at home, there should be minimum criteria for whom the villagers can follow. After constructing an underground water tank, it is important to have proper cover. Open and dangerous groundwater tanks in Thar have been built anywhere without any safety aspect. The place to make them is not chosen correctly. The locals are illiterate and focus less on human development and are unable to predict future risk. The people of Thar do not think what will happen to them in the future, so they build water tanks everywhere. As a result, many children and animals die every year. Such incidents are common in Tharparkar but they are not reported much in the media but in the deep desert areas such incidents often happen.A small mistake makes them regret it for the rest of their lives. The policy of domestic and stock ground tank licensing is not immediately implemented everywhere in Tharparkar, they build tanks without any technical knowledge or without measuring future risks. The best solution for overcoming the issue is to sensitize the community in avoiding such accidents. The best way to deal with this is to make our community more knowledgeable
