Role of FBR will be fruitful in eliminating corruption in Pakistan: KHM CEO
Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times) : Instead of paying taxes to the government in a transparent manner, a large number of taxpayers opt to bargain with some corrupt tax collectors for stealing taxes and even after paying more than the actual tax amount they are also intimidated.
This was stated by the Chief Executive officer of Knight Human Management (KHM) Shalaan Pakistan, an agency working for the protection of rights of overseas Pakistanis. He was addressing to the participants of a training workshop held here on Wednesday for professional tax advisors.
“Reforms in the FBR by the present government will be very effective and fruitful in curbing this corruption, provided that the number of professional tax advisors is increased by giving them training, which will also create a myriad of employment opportunities”, he added. He said that it has been our misfortune that no special attention was paid in the past to the promotion of transparent tax culture in the country however the reforms undertaken by the FBR on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan are proving to be very helpful in eradicating corruption from this sector.
He mentioned that in order to make these reforms effective and efficient, it is essential to increase the number of professional tax advisors, which would not only promote a clean and transparent tax culture in our dear homeland but will also help in eliminating unemployment. “In view of this need, we have started the process of imparting professional training in tax advisory to young lawyers and educated women and men”, he stated. He said that professional tax advisors would increase the awareness of tax laws as well as free the taxpayers from the fear of the concerned government agencies. He further said instead of stealing taxes, it will help the taxpayers to get the benefits of paying full tax to the national exchequer, which will not only eliminate corruption but also increase tax revenue in the national treasury
