ZHOB: Deputy Commissioner Mir Shehak Baloch has said that books and libraries have great importance in the nation-building and put countries on the path to progress. The administration of the Imperial Library deserves the credit for keeping the library functional despite limited resources and hurdles.
He was speaking at a function held on the occasion of one year completion of Imperial Library at Kaliwal Shaheed Chowk here. The event was attended by a large number of people and students from different walks of life.
“Zhob is a ‘fertile’ district, its youth proving their mettle in every field of life,” adding the library will soon be moved to a spacious government building, so that more and more book lovers can benefit from it,” DC Shehak vowed.
Shehzad Khan, administrator of the library, in his welcome note shed light on the role of library and its one-year performance. He said
the Imperial Library was quenching the thirst of hundreds of book-lover members on daily basis.
“The library remains open fourteen hours out of twenty-four hours, with a quiet serene atmosphere for reading as well as free internet service, electricity, newspapers, journals and computer lab facilities.
“Philanthropists in the city should financially support the administration to pay the utility bills timely and bear other expenses,” he demanded.
Deputy Director BUITEMS Tariq Shah and Assistant Prof. Fida-ur-Rehman Marwat while speaking, congratulated the library administration on hectic efforts and highlighted the trend of book reading.
“Libraries play a significant role in uplifting the nations. Libraries are established at educational institutions for students besides for the general public. In the West the libraries are also set up at schools and even mini-libraries at museums and hospitals. Library is considered to be the center of creative minds,” adding the women folk also has the right to benefit from it. Keeping in mind the district’s growing population, a state-of-the-art library is needed. He emphasized.
Mr Marwat on the occasion said that a series of motivational lectures has been started for the students on polarism, non-violence, democracy and other topics. By engaging the youth, we will be able to restore the lost values ??and build a peaceful society.
“The dream of a prosperous future can not be materialized without engaging the women in the journey of progress,” he said.
Deputy Director Livestock Dr. Naseebullah Kakar and social activist Ali Sherani in their speeches also commended the administration’ efforts for providing a better study environment to the youth and educated segment of society. Meanwhile, certificates were also distributed among the participants of different events held at the library.
