The biggest concern right now is Delta, a strain of the highly infectious SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was first identified in India in December. After that, it spreads rapidly through that country and also in Pakistan. The first Delta case in Pakistan was diagnosed in May and it is now the dominant strain in the country. The delta variants are the most transmittable version of the coronavirus worldwide. It spreads two to three times faster than the original kind of the virus and is currently dominating the pandemic in the United States.People who have not been fully vaccinated against coronavirus are most at risk. A recent study from the UK shows that children under the age of 50 and adults are 3 times more likely to be infected with delta. As older age groups get vaccinated, those who are younger and unvaccinated will be at higher risk of getting coronavirus with any variant, but Delta seems to be impacting younger age groups more than previous variants. Symptoms are similar to those seen with the original coronavirus strain and other variants, including a persistent cough, headache, fever, and sore throat. With Delta, the difference is that the infected person can make many copies of the virus faster, making it easier to spread. The Delta variant is not only more transmissible than its predecessors, but also more deadly for people of all ages. A study shows that in the US states, 99.5% of COVID-19 deaths in the past few months were among people who had not been vaccinated. To date, more than 20 million doses of the vaccine have been delivered in Pakistan, but only a little more than 4 million people are fully vaccinated. Pakistan has a population of over 200 million.Following the outbreak of the fourth wave of coronavirus in the country, the Sindh government has once again locked down Sindh on August 8, closing all business, recreational, religious, cultural and sports activities. In addition, all ongoing examinations have been postponed. The most important thing you can do to protect yourself from Delta is to get fully vaccinated. So we should fully support the decision of the Sindh government and request the government to really make such a decision for the benefit of the people and sometimes difficult decisions have to be made. Therefore, all stakeholders, including the public, must fully comply with the decisions, as it is in our best interest. If we all want to take this pandemic seriously, we need to not only follow government decisions but also vaccinate as much as possible.
