KC-EU’s Chair Ali Raza Syed lauds fresh move of MEPs for raising violations of HR in occupied Kashmir,

Brussels, (PR):  Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) Chairman Ali Raza Syed has praised sixteen Members of European Parliament (MEPs) for their fresh move for raising concern over the severe violations of human rights in occupied Kashmir.

In a joint communique addressing high ranking EU’s authorities the MEPs on Friday said, “We, undersigned members of the European Parliament, are writing you to bring your attention to the alarming human rights and humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The letter further said, the miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been amply documented in the International Human Rights Watch World Report 2021 as well as the reports of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2018 and 2019.
In their letter dispatched to the President of the Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen and the Vice President of the Commission/High Representative Josep Borrell, the MEPs asked EU to convey their grave concerns at the violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir to the Indian Government and to take urgent action to address the alarming human rights situation in the region. They also appealed EU to contribute to the peace and stability of the region enhancing dialogues with India, Pakistan and the representatives of Kashmiri people, making use of EU’s special relationships with both India and Pakistan to facilitate engagement and dialogue between the two neighbours and resolve the dispute through peaceful means and in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

In a statement Ali Raza Syed said, the letter of 16 MEPS to the highest officials of European Union is an important development in the context of severe situation of occupied Kashmir witnessing rising abuses of human rights for many decades specially since 5th August 2019 as India removed special status of Jammu and Kashmir in its constitution and took direct federal government’s control on Jammu and Kashmir.

Ali Raza Syed said, EU should use it good offices and resources to stop human rights violation in occupied Kashmir and play its role for a peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue according to the United Nation Resolutions and wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
