ISLAMABAD, (Parliament Times) : Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has given final touches to the fool proof arrangements for holding of free, fair and impartial elections to Azad Jammu and Kashmir legislative Assembly to be held on 25th of July (Sunday).
This was stated by member of the AJK Election Commission Farhat Ali Mir in an interview to this correspondent over telephone on Friday.
Farhat Ali Mir said that a total of 3.2 million registered voters from all 45 electoral constituencies including 33 in all 10 AJK districts and 12 meant for Jammu and Kashmir refugees living in Pakistan will exercise their right of franchise to elect their representative to the 53-seat AJK Legislature.
He said 829 polling stations have been declared most sensitive while 1200 polling stations sensitive.
Mir urged the media to cooperate with the election commission and supplement the government efforts for holding free, fair and transparent elections of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. He said Pakistan Army will be available at the polling stations to maintain law and order for the peaceful conduct of the elections so that the voters could cast their votes freely and added that army has no role in the election process and will be standby for quick response.
He said all arrangements have also been finalized for holding free and transparent elections in the constituencies of the Jammu and Kashmir refugees settled in Pakistan and urged the media persons to monitor the election process in the 12 constituencies of Jammu and Kashmiri refugees settled in Pakistan and for this purpose a special security plan has also been finalized for holding impartial elections in these constituencies.
Mir lauded the vibrant role of print and electronic media for giving extensive coverage to the efforts of the election commission for holding, free, fair and transparent elections of the 53-seat Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
