KARACHI,(Parliament Times): The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has strongly condemned the assassination attempt on senior journalist and former PEMRA chairman Absar Alam in Islamabad this evening. Expressing deep concern over this cowardly act of terrorism, CPNE President Arif Nizami and Secretary General Dr. Jabbar Khattak have demanded from the authorities above that they immediately release all available investigative resources within their jurisdiction and ensure the arrest of the accused and punish the culprits.
CPNE leaders have said that unfortunately intolerance trend is allowed to spread unchecked and today they have gripped the entire society with dire consequences. The CPNE leaders also drew attention to the fact that the ruling classes are taking steps to curb the language of free media. The time has come for the ruling classes to take seriously and seriously ensure freedom of expression and freedom of the media, as this is the only way to create tolerance and trust in a divided political environment and nation. Arif Nizami and Dr. Jabbar Khattak prayed for the speedy and complete recovery of Mr. Absar Alam and expressed full solidarity with him and his family.
