Since decades, most of the institutes of Pakistan have been underperforming caused by demerit. If we look at any institution over there numerous black sheeps are found, who are violating merit constantly during recruitment for their vacant posts. After 2004, trampling on merit has increasingly heightened, and its impact is more ghastly on the educated youths and institutions ultimately for the economy of Pakistan. The main motive behind squee zing out of merit in Pakistan is corruption, nepotism, cronyism and favoritism, and roots of such curse are strong enough in Pakistan. While seed of corruption is sown in institutions when the incompetents come on positions by paying extensive amount of money for the posts and obviously, they leave no stone unturned for recovering money. Ultimately, they create a vindictive thoughts and in avarice of amassing money, their nature is set to take bribe till retirement for any legitimate work done by people and during the tenure of services, nepotism, cronyism and favoritism are rampant in the institutions where they are designated. Similarly, a mutual thought of revenge is formed in the minds of those people, who fall prey of bribery and likewise this vicious act becomes tradition. Funeral of merit comes out of every institute in Pakistan whether it is governmental, semi-governmental or even private. Apart from other institutes, if we consider state-owned enterprises; PIA, Railway and steel mill are in losses since years and there are a few major reasons behind all these failed enterprises. Reportedly over employment, majority of employees with counterfeit degrees, violation of right person on the right job and incompetent of high rank officers. namely these reasons are of violation of merit. On the other hand, if teachers, protesting for upgrade are interviewed about their own profession of teaching, are found uneducated and barbarous, starkly they are not enlisted in government jobs on their ability but on the bases of nepotism, favoritism and by means of paying wad. However, malignant officials are present in every institution, who misuse their authorities to murder the merit, while recruiting for vacant posts ranging from grade five to BPS-17. Moreover, Public service commissions are reportedly a massive violators of merit. While, it is matter of great grievance and gracelessly of our country that the institutes where justice is sought and hoped for the better, there are malicious professionals too who kill merit by misusing their authorities based on the power of prestigious institutions. Demerit suppresses a segment of youths to go ahead Youngsters tend to go for higher education with hopes, that they would be officers in their respective fields after passing out from universities. After bearing mounting expenses of fees and completing specific tenure of degrees, by the time, our degrees remain just a piece of paper or a valueless paper, because paucity of students land jobs on merit and hefty number of candidates for the positions available in their respective departments are deprived and in lieu of them, favourite ones are appointed. A segment of such individuals, who has sufficient skills and knowledge are suffering from demerit, above all, having no other resources to work independently, and the downtrodden educated youths, holding degrees in hands having skills, knowledge and talent are stumbling at the doors of feudal lords ds and other influential for jobs. Finally, the educated youngsters despair from everywhere and crossing age limit of job they opt to involve either in heinous crimes, illicit acts or become patients of anxiety and depression.”When no any hope lingers for earning livelihood, and after becoming mentally ill such educated youths can never be proven a responsible individuals for their societies. Whereas, less social betterment and growth, affect new generation” Role of government in killing of merit For demerit in government institutions, whether it is reported in provinces or federal, the government of the time is responsible for it, because in murdering the merit, there is key roll of government. MPAs, MNAs and other political members, offer job orders to their nears and dears on proviso of taking votes in return, or they sell job to the people for hefty amount of money and haplessly those incapable and inept officials are imposed in institutions. demerit hampers economic growth Demerit directly affects economy, the reason is that economic growth is ensured through standard education system and better health system, but it is a matter of great concern, that youngsters recently gained skills, knowledge and talents are not utilized for effective and efficient productivity in the economy. Unluckily, those valuable minds are confined to the skulls and gradually perished. Unjustness of invisible meritocracy, surely leads to violation of right person on the right job, and consequently, institutes’ performance is less than expected at a time of performance evaluation. It is crystal clear, when performance of institutions is insufficient, it affects economy because quality of service matters more to the people. Another shock to the Pakistan’s economy is brain drain. A segment of youngsters, who are highly skilled and proficiently qualified feels insecure and hopeless to land a suitable job or not to be provided opportunities of doing business in Pakistan, they make intention to go abroad where, their degrees, skills and experiences has an ample value. Forestallments to stop demerit Government has to ensure transparency in recruitment process in every department no matter if it is a post of BPS-5 or lesser. Transparency and just recruitment process is possible, when two different standard agencies would be established for conducting tests and interviews for government jobs and establishment of an audit body for scrutinizing the agencies’ standards. If candidates pass both test and interview for jobs through the both agencies she should be handed over a certificate, stating legitimately able for so and so post. In addition, the apex court of Pakistan must take stern notice of selling job orders to halt demerit and establish meritocracy system to place right person on the right job.
