MIRPUR (AJK),   (Parliament Times) : State-run National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) has completed the rehabilitation/upgradation of the existing 130 km long 220 kV double circuit transmission line from Jamshoro to KDA-33 (Karachi). Official sources said.

The Company has also completed rehabilitation work ahead of the deadline despite difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the authoritative NTDC sources said in a statement released to the media Saturday evening. The transmission line is expected to be energized on or before 31st of this month, the NTDC statement said.

The completion of this transmission infrastructure shall result in the increase of 450 MW power supply from national grid to the KE power network during summers once load demand is high. Consequently, it shall result in reduction of load shedding in Karachi.

This increase in power supply from national grid to KE is in addition to the existing supply arrangement comprising of 650 MW from the 500 kV & 220 kV networks and 150 MW wind power through 132 kV network. Thus, a maximum of 1100 MW power supply from national grid to KE will significantly improve power supply situation for Karachi.

Federal Minister for Power Mr. Omar Ayub Khan appreciated the dedicated and coordinated efforts of NTDC and KE teams in achieving this milestone in a timely manner, the statenebt said adding that this is a special gift from federal government to the people of Karachi for the summer season, especially before the holy month of Ramzan.
