Lahore : .Every year, 5 lac people get sick with TB in Pakistan. The organizations working for elimination of TB have stressed upon timely treatment to curb its prevalence.According to details, Infection Prevention and Control Foundation, in collaboration with Punjab TB Control Program, Gulab Devi Hospital Lahore, and WHO Pakistan, organized the World TB Day Public Health Symposium at the Governor House Lahore. Most prestigious guests and speakers consolidated together for the cause of ending TB from Punjab.The Governor of Punjab, His Excellency, Ch. Mohammad Sarwar graced the symposium with his presence as the chief guest. Other noteworthy guests of honor included Dr.Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala (Country Head WHO Pakistan), Dr. Haroon Jahangir Khan (Director General Health Services, Punjab), Ms. Noshin Hamid (Parliamentary Secretary for Health for Federal Health), M. Murtaza Arain (Member Board of Trustees, Infection Prevention and Control Foundation), Syed Shahid Ali (Chairman Gulab Devi Hospital),Sarah Aslam (Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Care Department), Dr. Syed Karam Shah (Senior Advisor To Stop TB Pakistan), Dr. Javed Hayat Khan (Consultant Pulmonologist, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center), Dr. Quratulain Kizilbash (Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Texas), Dr. Muhammad Saeed Akhtar (Program Manager, Provincial TB Control Program Punjab) and Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz (President Pakistan Anti TB Association). Addressing the event, the speakers said that TB is both curable and preventable, yet it remains an epidemic in Pakistan with the country ranking 5th amongst the high burden countries in the world. This is a deadly disease worldwide and affects 500,000 people in Pakistan every year. Keeping in view these alarming numbers, the event’s purpose was to gather all the experts and authorities at one place in order to set a strategic direction and to eliminate TB from Pakistan.The Governor congratulated the Infection Prevention and Control Foundation and rest of the collaborating partners in organizing a successful event and vowed to provide utmost support in ending TB from Punjab. The attendees also encouraged philanthropists to come forward and join government in its efforts to stamp out TB from Pakistan.
