Thatta: A delegation of the European Union led by Mr. Ribet visited Kati Bunder, a coastal town of district Thatta. Officials of PDMA Faisal Uqaili, renowned economist Dr. Qaiser Bengali and others were also accompanied by them.
Mr. Uqali briefed them about the geographical importance of the area and about the natural disasters the area had been hit by in the past two decades. He said that; Following the intrusion of the sea the area was on the verge of disappearance.
The delegation was apprised of the measures taken by the government for improving the plight of the fishermen community in the area.
Faisal Uqali said The government was taking measures to provide basic amenities to the fishermen so that their quality of life could be improved.
Assistant Commissioner Abdul Ghaffar said that the fishermen community of the area was suffering every year due to natural calamities including drought and heavy rains and the government was taking all possible efforts to facilitate them.
Mr. Ribiet and Qasair Bengali stressed the need of providing them opportunities to improve financial conditions. Qaisar Bengali said that investments should be made on the part of the government through public-private partnerships to improve their quality of life.
The delegation visited water supply schemes, embankments and reviewed the facilities being provided to the Fishermen community.
