Peace has always been among humanity’s highest values. It is a famous saying that “The most disadvantageous peace is better than the most just war.” Another saying is that “Peace is more important than all justice.” Peace is not the absence of conflict – but the ability to manage conflict constructively, as an important opportunity for change and increased understanding. Peace is more than the absence of war. It also means various ways of cooperation between states. Without it, there is no real peace, there is only a sort of truce. Also, there is difference between local, regional or world peace. Peace is also one of basic human rights. The definition of peace means being free from disturbance. Peace is the concept of harmonious well-being and freedom from hostile aggression. Pakistan is a responsible country and always exploring the opportunities of peace. Pakistan has always initiated the peace process with India and sincerely tried best to resolve all issues with India, including Jammu and Kashmir, by a peaceful dialogue. Pakistan has once again proved that it is a peace loving country. Pakistan is a peace-loving country. Since its independence Pakistan has been promoting peace and stability around the world. Pakistan’s Peace-keeping missions have been playing important roles around the world to maintain peace in troubled areas. We are major contributor to Peace-Keeping Force and have been part of almost all of UN Peace-Missions, during the history of 7 decades. Pakistan is supportive of any efforts by any nation towards promotion or maintenance of peace. The role of Pakistan Army is highly commendable. The director-generals of military operations of India and Pakistan reviewed the situation along the Line of Control and all other sectors in a “free, frank and cordial atmosphere,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Thursday. The two DGs of military operations made hotline contact in the interest of achieving “mutually beneficial and sustainable peace”, the ISPR statement read. It said they agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have the propensity to disturb peace and lead to violence. The Pak-India agreement has been appreciated by the whole world. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the development a “positive step” and hoped that it would pave the way for more talks between the two countries. “The Secretary-General is encouraged by the joint statement issued by the militaries of India and Pakistan on their agreement to observing the ceasefire at the Line of Control in Kashmir and engaging through established mechanisms,” his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said in a statement read out at the regular noon briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday. “He (UN chief) hopes that this positive step will provide an opportunity for further dialogue,” the statement said. Spokesman said the UN chief had no plans as yet to contact the leaders of India and Pakistan for starting the process to resolve the decades-old Kashmir dispute. Both sides agreed for strict observance of all agreements, understandings and cease firing along the LOC and all other sectors, with effect from midnight 24/25 February 21. It was reiterated by Pakistan and India that existing mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings will be utilised to resolve any unforeseen situation or misunderstanding. Contact between the two military officials comes at a time when a number of cases of LoC violations by India have been reported by the Pakistan Army. The US has welcomed a joint statement from India and Pakistan that they have agreed to maintain a ceasefire along the disputed border in Kashmir. We appreciate the move to enforce the ceasefire agreement to reduce tensions at the Line of Control (LoC) between both countries, said the spokesperson of the US State Department, Ned Price. The US demanded from both the countries to defuse tensions along LoC. This is a positive step towards greater peace and stability in South Asia, which is in our shared interest and we encourage both countries to keep building upon this progress. Terming Pakistan an important ally of the United States, the US State Department spokesperson added that they are in favour of direct talks between Islamabad and New Delhi on Kashmir and other issues. Pak-India LOC ceasefire agreement is a great achievement of Pak Army. We are proud of our Army. The role of Pak Army in the stability of our Country and region is highly commendable. Agreement would contribute to greater peace in the region. This is a positive step towards greater peace and stability in South Asia. Pakistan is a peace loving nuclear power democratic state. Pakistan Army has a long history of serving under the umbrella of United Nations. Pakistan’s role in peacekeeping efforts began in 1960 when it deployed its first contingent in the UN operations in Congo. Over the past 55 years, the country has been the most significant and consistent contributor to the UN peacekeeping around the world. Pakistan has achieved moral victory over India.
