The Provincial Cabinet of Sindh has recently approved the new Recruitment Policy 2021 on 24 February in connection to Teaching and Non Teaching Staff of School Education and Literacy Department, Sindh. According to the notification vide No.SO (G-1) SED (Recruit/ Policy) /2017 dated 22nd May 2017, Recruitment Policy shall be responsible to engage merit-based mechanism for hiring locally available teachers and non teaching staff. This latest press release from the SELD maintains that Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) would run the responsibility of conducting the Screening Test for the post of Secondary School Teacher BPS-16, Subject Specialist BPS-17, and Headmaster/Headmistress BPS-17. With reference to the notification, posts of Junior Elementary School Teacher BPS-14, Primary School Teacher PST BPS-14 and Early Childhood Teacher ECT BPS-15 shall be filled according to the UC-based mechanism. Apropos the format of written test for the posts mentioned above, the SELD has completely changed the examination policy from previous to new one. Except assessment of the knowledge in various subjects, additional marks for professional qualification would be awarded to the students of BS Edu/ B.Ed (Hon), ADE, M.Ed and B.Ed. Passing Criteria for PST, ECT and JEST is minimum 55% marks. Meanwhile, a 5% statutory quota for the minorities are reserved. Previously, the assessment of B.Ed subject was cut-off from the examination of PST-14 but in the new policy assessment of understanding of various pedagogies, instructional planning and assessment of learning environment is included. This is a big hit to the non B.Ed students as they will face difficulties in order to secure maximum passing marks in the written exam. Also, the minimum proposed educational qualification for PST will be graduation in the Second Division. The PST post (Grade 9) has been upgraded to Grade 14, so it has been graduated from Intermediate in view of the upgrade of educational qualification for the initial recruitment.
