Recently, Sindh High Court has heard a petition against the use of 5G technology in Pakistan. The petitioner has taken a stand that 5G technology is dangerous to human health. The petitioner says, according to research and related study, 5G has devastating effects. The Sindh High Court issued notices to the Deputy Attorney General and Advocate General seeking response from the federal and provincial governments on the petition against the use of 5G technology. What is 5G? Users have access to even faster internet access with the advent of 5G networks. Scientists describe the major and fundamental changes in technology as Generation or G when it comes to mobile communication. The fifth generation of the mobile phone network, the 5G is using high frequency and bandwidth. This ‘G’ allows users to download and upload data many times faster than the past. This technology can transmit ten gigabytes per second. Is it really worrying? Experts warn that radiation from a smartphone or radio antenna produces an electromagnetic field (EMF), which increases the risk of cancer. “Its effects include increased risk of cancer, cellular stress, expulsion of dangerous molecules, genetic damage, changes in the structure and function of the reproductive system, impairment in learning and memory,” the warning said. It also includes the fact that radiation from mobile phones affects human behaviour as well as the nervous system. Motorola Vice President Martin Cooper introduced the first commercial or portable mobile phone in 1973. However, the DynaTAC mobile phone went on sale ten years later, in 1983. Weighing in at around one kilogram, this mobile phone was quite expensive and at that time it cost about 400 US Dollar. But, the 5G is another word, not connected to mobile phones barely. The petition is valid about 5G as Scientists have already warned that not only humans but also animals and plants are being affected by fast electromagnetic radiations generated by 5G internet connections.
