being sexually assaulted in the bordering area of Qamardin and
thrown his body into a well. Last year, a widow ‘Irani’ was tricked into
marriage and murdered her child after sexual assault. The High Court
had sentenced him to life imprisonment, but following his appeal the
BHC ordered release of the convicted rapist.
On Monday all the shops and markets remained closed in protest
against the incident. The shutter-down strike call was given by the
Anjuman-e-Tajiran and supported by Alla Parties Action Committee.
All political and religious parties staged a protest demonstration at
Shams-ud-din Shaheed chowk, where thousands of people
participated. The speakers vehemently condemned the incident and
called it a cruel act. They expressed outrage over the inhumane act
and demanded of the Balochistan High Court and the district
administration an exemplary punishment and death sentence.
On Jan 28, the twelve-year-old Asmatullah Safi, a resident of the
slum area Sohrab Goth, went missing mysteriously. He used to work
as a labourer. Finally on Sunday some passersby spotted the charred
body of Asmatullah in a deserted place and informed the police. The
body was beyond recognition. The CCTV footage of a local hotel on
Dera road shows that child is walking with the accused.
The news spread like wildfire, closed elatives of the victim and
political and social activists in a large number, placed the dead body
at Kaliwal Shaheed chowk and held a sit-in. Highly emotional scenes
were witnessed and people were shedding tears. The charged
protesters also blocked Zhob-D.I Khan road by setting tyres on fire
and erecting barricades. The angry mob strongly condemned the

incident negligence of the police.
