Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : The Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development in its meeting on Friday took up the Public Petition no 3352 pertaining to the plight of working class suffering at their work place; referred by Honourable Chairman Senate for consideration and Report.
Chaired by Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman, the meeting was attended by Senator Mohsin Aziz, Senator Muhammad Khalid Bizenji, Senator Naseebullah Bazai and senior officers from the Ministry for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) along with all concerned.
Members of the All Pakistan Workers Federation apprised the Committee about the plight of workers and measures that could help improve their condition; especially with regards to the Baldia Town incident in Karachi and the safety protocols of mine workers.
After hearing the petitioners Chairman Committee, assured them of his complete support and said that despite that much cannot be achieved on this forum, since this is a devolved subject. He asked the petitioners to send their suggestions in writing and assured them that he would forward these along with Committee recommendation to the Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries of the four provinces. He further stated that he would try that the All Pakistan Federation be allotted a meeting slot with Chief Minister Sindh so that so that they can discuss with him reservations regarding compensation for Baldia incident victims in detail. The matter was disposed of.
