Promoting Islam on social media

Bareera Khan
First of all before starting work on this topic we have to know what is social media. As we know in recent years, interactions between have completely changed with the appearance and development of computers and networks. This is social media that connects people in one place. Social media is a platform that collects a lot of people around the world in one place and gives them many opportunities like online and offline reading, writing, social interactions with friends, fellows, relatives. Radi (2003, p. 23) defined them as a system of e-nets that allow the subscribers to design their website and link it with an e-social system with other members who have similar interests and hobbies. Procedurally, they are e-networks and e-websites that the subscribers can use to communicate with the e-social system consists of a group of individuals who share the same interests. Basically, social media is all about websites and apps that come from computers first but many people use to say that social media is mobile phone apps and tablets because a majority of people are using apps in their mobile phones that’s why they think it`s mobile phone`s applications while computers and laptops are just using in offices, education places, etc. As we all know very well that social media plays a very important role in our society as well as our personal lives and relations too. One cannot deny because it`s reality and in this advanced period majority of people of any age group are using social media with different styles. It also may be defined as: Social media: Social and media these two words have different meanings Social means a way of communicating with others by sharing information and obtaining information from them. Media means communication devices (T.V, Radio, Newspapers are examples of more traditional types). From these two fundamentals we can pull together a fundamental definition. Social media is a web-based communication tool that enables the sharing of both sharing and eating information with others (Nations, 2019) Social media refers to the definition of “Internet-based application built on web 2.0, web 2.0 is a concept and refers to a platform for collective intelligence to use. (Huang and benyoucef 2013) 4 Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media differ from paper-based media (e.g., magazines and newspapers) and traditional electronic media such as TV broadcasting, Radio broadcasting in many ways, including quality, reach, frequency, interactivity, usability, immediacy, and performance. Social media outlets operate in a dialogic transmission system (many sources to many receivers). This is in contrast to traditional media which operates under a mono-logic transmission model (one source to many receivers), like a newspaper that is delivered to many subscribers one by one or a radio station broadcasting from a place to entire city. Social media services are quite different from this type of media service. Some of the most popular social media websites, with over 100 million registered users, including Facebook (and its associated Facebook Messenger), YouTube, WeChat, Instagram, QQ, QZone, Imo, Zoom, Weibo, Twitter, Tumblr, Telegram, Baidu Tieba, Zoom, Fiver, Freelancing, medium, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, LINE, Snapchat, Pinterest, Viber, VK, Reddit, Discord, Skype, Musical ly, like, Tiktok and such related apps and websites. Spreading Islam by social media: Islam: Islam is an Arabic word meaning submission and in a religious context it means “submission to the will of God”. Islam is derived from the Arabic word “salam” which means peace. The religion demonstrates peace and tolerance. Now coming to the main point social media don`t have limits of anything. Everyone can easily use this for his purpose either it can be about Religion, Health, Science, Education, Entertainment, Comedy, etc. So everyone has his own choice of the way he wants to use this platform he can there are no restrictions that will be applied to anyone. So for spreading Islam it is the best platform best opportunity for Islamic scholars and all true followers of Islam for preaching and spreading Islam through this amazing and large platform. Importance and significance of the topic: Social media nowadays becomes very important because of its amazing features and properties. The ability to share photos, events, opinions, advice, videos, memories in real-time has transformed our lifestyle completely. Those people who are doing business through social media get amazing results. Websites, personal blogs, and chat rooms which were later appeared, created a type of communication between their owners and users in one hand and between the users themselves (Radi, 2003). These websites are web pages th t appeared on the Internet; some of them are allocated to advertise about goods and services or to sell products(Ameen, 2009; Vansoon, 2010). Social Networks websites became the most common in the network for the characteristics that distinguished them from other e-websites which encouraged internet browsers all around the world to use them (Karbinsiki, 2010). This was the importance of Social media now let me talk about spreading Islam thought it. Allah who created this world and all praises are just for Him(s.w.t) alone. The one Who gave life and then all facilities. All things in the world have been created for human welfare. As we can see in the case of da`wah all prophets didn’t use social media sites or modern techniques because they used facilities and techniques of their time and situation. Now people become addicted and it`s quite difficult to take them to return to an invisible world Deein And Akhirah. According to research: In recent years, interactions between humans have completely changed with the appearance and development of computers and networks. Social relationships are going to start at the beginning of the web. People communicate, build relationships using social networks (Bandura, 1986). Today, social media adoption and use of a wide range of human life in every section. Muslims are not different from other societies, in the last few years, which has increased the use of social media trends. It has brought changes that can have a significant impact on the individual and group level of Muslim society. Social media is easy to use, easy to learn, and the ability to communicate public universality of speed (Davis, 1989). Same as there are a lot of benefits of using social media for the preaching of Islam. There are many applications are available on play stores that are about Quran, Ahadith, Seerah of Prophet (p.b.u.h), Islamic jurisprudence, Muslim history and there are a lot of pdf files and online websites those are running of for spreading Islam. As same there are also a lot of Facebook and what’s app groups available having Islamic contents and have created for dawah purpose. Reasons of selection of topic: As a student of Islamic studies and being a social media user I can easily relate and understand the relation between these two individuals. The main reason is to find out all relations and research it than to encourage people to use social media for dawah purpose and the second one is to spread Islam through social media by self first. Because our main purpose and the priority is indeed Islam and it`s preaching so I just wanna do it my self for a better life and the life hereafter just wanna do it for the sake of Almighty. And after this research it`s also might be possible that in future I will be an online motivational Islamic speaker or a teacher so that`s why it`s quite important to know about it because social media already have set its place in our daily lives and personal too. The research aimed to identify the role of Social Networks in the social and religious values of The World Islamic Sciences & Education University students.
