DADU: Speakers at the concluding ceremony of a two-day conference have termed the late archeologist, writer, poet and researcher Taj Sehrai as “encyclopedia of knowledge” on archeological sites of Sindh and said that he would always be remembered for the unique research work he has done on archeological sites of the province.
They said the written books of Taj Sehrai 29 in number were treasures of information for the readers across Pakistan.
This they said while addressing the two- day Literary Conference held at Press Club Dadu here on Thursday. .
The scholars paid a glowing tribute to the services of late archaeologist and researcher Taj Sehrai and said the late poet was an academic gem of Sindh who led his life in persuit of seeking and imparting knowledge.
The son of the late Taj Sehrai and vice chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) Karachi Dr. Mujeebuddin Sehrai said that his father was a genius individual who dreamt of a prosperous Sindh and Pakistan adding that the late archeologist would read a number of books, conduct research and write books accordingly.
He said that veteran archeologist, writer & poet Taj Sehrai loved Sindh and Sindhi people greatly adding that his manuscripts were based on research and exploration.
“He was a strong upholder of Sindhi art and culture too besides that of being a popular poet of Sindh. He always tried to lead the nation towards prosperity and peace through his poetry”, the VC said.
DG Culture & Antiquities Manzoor ali Kanasero said that the culture department had recently published a book of well-known archeologist late Taj Sehrai which could prove an all-out manuscript of Manchhar lake adding that the late Sehrai had grip on issues relating to Manchhar lake and other archeological sites of Sindh.
He said that the culture department will get the pending books of the late archeologist published in due course of time.
Prof Aijaz Qureshi said that Taj Sehrai was the true ambassador of his people who successfully presented the soft and beautiful image of Sindhis to the world.
He said that the late archeologist was not only a good poet and scholar, but he had also made practical efforts for the development of education system in the province.
Paying tribute to him for his services in the cause of literature, art, culture, music and education, Prof. Qureshi said Taj Sehrai was a good teacher and a lover of archaeology.
Prof. Aziz Kingrani lauded the efforts of the late Sehrai in promoting archaeology and said that such people got birth rarely who dedicated themselves to their land and people.
He highlighted his contribution to the field of literature and culture and termed him a great researcher & poet of 21st century. “Taj Sehrai will ever be remembered for his works he rendered in his life. He is an iconic personality of the sub-continent”, he said.
President Press Club Dadu Sabir Hussain Bhand, senior journalist Imdad Ali Khushik, writer Anwer Azad Kandhro, Altaf Bukhari, Tabish Bukhari, Hakim Ali Shah and others said the late Sehrai was a great research scholar and archaeologist and a lover of the culture of Sindh. They said Mr Sehrai had spent his entire life in archaeological research.
