Ban on Nawaz speech case: why do you want to involve court in political matters, is there no parliament in the country: IHC

ISLAMABAD:    Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved judgement on maintainability of petition seeking ban on speeches of former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.

Counsel Adnan Iqbal appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner. The petition has been filed by a citizen.

Adnan Iqbal told the court Nawaz Sharif tried to malign the institutions in his September 20 speech.

The Chief Justice (CJ) IHC inquired what fundamental right of petitioner has been affected. Security agencies are there. A parliament is also there in the country. Why do you want to involve the court in the matters of political nature. Tell us what fundamental right of yours has been affected. Is there not a parliament in the country.

The counsel told the court when parliament does not do its job therefore, we come to you.

During the course of hearing of the case the court stopped the counsel from speaking against the parliament.

The court inquired “ do you know to what forum you should go. Is any PEMRA law in place therein.

The defense counsel said PEMRA has given a notice to media on this matter.

The court remarked you should approach what is your forum. Why have you made opposition leader respondent.

The CJ IHC while expressing displeasure over the counsel for petitioner for making opposition leader respondent inquired “ have you read your code of conduct. Why your case should not be referred to bar council.

The court reserved its judgment after hearing the arguments of the counsel.
