ISLAMABAD:   PML-N has demanded of the government to convene Parliamentary Kashmir Committee (PKC) meeting forthwith on Gilgit- Baltistan (GB) matter.

In his letter to chairman Kashmir committee former defence minister and member Kashmir committee engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan has said such media reports are creating unrest in GB that the military leadership has given briefing to parliamentary leaders on changing the constitutional status of GB. Minister for Kashmir affairs has given indication for making GB as fifth province of Pakistan in his statement.

He held despite these rumours the government has kept secret its intentions and proposed legislation on GB from the people and elected representatives of people. This has triggered grave concerns among the people. Formation of GB as 5th province will undermine the Kashmiris right to self-determination. This right to self-determination is based on UN resolutions.

Therefore, the meeting of parliamentary Kashmir committee be summoned immediately and officers of ministry of Kashmir affairs and foreign affairs should give briefing on these matters, the letter stated.
