Muzaffarabad,(Parliament Times): A protest procession was staged under the aegis of Civil Society Muzaffarabad against forged cigarettes here on Thursday.
People were chanting slogans against alcohol and fake cigarette dealers. They were holding banners and placards stated slogans against fake cigarette dealers.
People in the protest said that a company (Wayward) in the outskirt of Muzaffarabad is making and selling duplicate (copies) of branded cigarettes. They voiced that the Police and administration have given them open license to play with the lives of masses. While talking to media, protesters asked that who gave them permission to open a factory in residential area, “this is against the industrial code of conduct and constitutional laws” they added. The maintained that if incumbent government do not take any action against the said company then we will leave no stone unturned to end this illegal and injurious to health business within the city. They demanded government of AJK, Police and administration to take stern action against illegal and fake cigarette dealers before long. People from different segments of society including politicians, religious scholars, civil society members also participated in the protest. Ex Minister Muhammad Hanif Awan, Imran Khurshid, Shaukat Javed Mir, Syed Waris Ali Gillani, Syed Ali Raza Advocate, Majid Awan and others were also present on the occasion.
